FAQ

Jacqueline Photography's sessions are always fun, relaxed and we focus on having a great time while never forcing the photography so that when you see your images you can feel the emotion that was seized at that moment. My goal is to capture more than what your child looks like, rather your child's personality and what you love about your child right now in this stage of their life.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PHOTOGRAPH MY NEW BABY?

If you have a newborn, the ideal time to photograph them is within 14 days of their birth, ideally between days 3 and 8. Once newborns are 14 days or older, "artistic" newborn baby images are harder to achieve as they sleep less and can become fussy when placed on their tummies or in other poses. Newborn babies should be photographed while sleeping because they are peaceful in appearance. While awake, their movements often look awkward and uncomfortable in still images. Virtually all of the newborn babies you see on my web site were between 5 and 8 days old when photographed. Jacqueline Photography practices SAFE newborn posing and always keeps your baby's safety the number one priority!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DO A BELLY SESSION?

Typically around 7-8 months (30-35 weeks) but it mostly depends on the mother. We want you to be comfortable for our session so it's best to schedule your session before you start retaining water typically in the 8th month towards the end. Every woman is different so it's best to contact us to discuss this further.

WHAT IS A LIFESTYLE FAMILY SESSION?

To me, a lifestyle session is documenting your family in your home as you are on a daily basis, capturing all those moments that make your family unique to you in a photojournalistic and beautiful way. We would discuss what your family loves doing together in your home prior to our session, wether it's playing with toys, reading books, cooking in the kitchen, playing outside or whatever your family loves to do.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR SESSION?

Simple sleeved garments in medium to dark tones look best. Darker shades are more flattering and slimming. Clothing in medium shades complement portraits made in outdoor environments.

Bold stripes, plaids, checks, and prints don't photograph well unless on children.

Bright colors, such as red and orange tend to overpower the face.

Avoid light colors that approximate flesh tones such as beige, tan, peach, pink, white, and yellow.

Very simple garments always photograph best. If you are self-concious about any part of your body make sure that part is covered, for example if you are self-concious about your arms you might want to wear long sleeves.

Couples or groups should choose simple garments within the same tonal ranges. Light and dark tones mixed together create visual confusion, as one subject comes forward and the other recedes. Clothing that blends harmoniously creates timeless portraiture because the viewer's eye goes directly to the faces.

Feel free to have fun with your clothing options. Put adults in solids or simple patterns and put the kids in fun and colorful prints. And don't forget to layer and accessorize! Lay all outfits out on the bed to make sure all colors compliment each other.

CAN WE INCLUDE OUR PETS IN OUR SESSION?

I'm a huge animal lover so of course you can include your furry family member in our session! We can discuss locations that are animal friendly prior to your session.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO VIEW MY PORTRAITS?

We will schedule a time to meet at my Roseville studio about 5-14 days after your session. Please be prepared to place your order at this time. Print and product orders are paid in full at time of purchase. Please allow 7-14 days for prints and 4-6 weeks for albums, gallery wraps and other custom products.

DO YOU PROVIDE COLOR AND BLACK AND WHITE PRINT OPTIONS?

I shoot in digital so anything can be turned into black and white. At our viewing appointment I will provide a handful of images in black and white so you can get a feel for what it looks like, but if you have an image you'd like to see in black and white I can always show you how that would look.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE CAN I BOOK A SESSION?

Weekends book up quickly about 2-8 weeks out, therefore I would recommend booking your sessions as soon as you're ready. During Spring, Summer and Fall months the calendar fills up quickly so please inquire about booking your session as soon as you can.
